What Has This World Come To??

This morning I am torn. I want to post something positive, but the events of last night in Dallas are weighing heavily on my heart.

As you know, my younger brother is a police officer. My "baby" brother that I promised our mother 45 years ago that  I would protect, now protects me and you.

After serving 20 years in one of the most deadly cities in the South (second only to Atlanta!), he was retired for >>only one day<< before he started his new job in the suburb next door, THAT is how much he loves what he does!

The thought that some lunatic may ambush him simply because he has sworn with his life to protect others terrifies me!

Last night he reaffirmed his desire to continue to Protect and Serve despite current circumstances. He believes that ALL LIVES MATTER! Even those who do not appreciate or deserve his protection.

THAT is why we have law enforcement. Because ordinary people are willing to put on the uniform and willingly step into the gap between good and evil. He could have just as easily been a race car driver, but he chose this instead. Would you have the guts to do it?

My brother protects you along, with many others brothers, sisters, husbands wives, moms and dads, red ,yellow, white and yes, black too, who all love what they do.

Now think about that as your post your opinions today.

The Enemy Within

I am seeing this more and more often. Single mothers who find out too late that the charming, romantic, heroic, man of their dreams, is actually a monster.

Sharing Catherine's story.

If Looks Could Kill

Today I just have to speak on the horrific accident involving Kevin Ward Jr. and Tony Stewart over the weekend.

But first a little background: I not only grew up practically in the shadow of  the  Talledega Superspeedway, I still live there today. Five minutes up the road is the prestigious Barber Motorsports complex, where everything from motorcycles to  Indy cars race.  Both my brother and father raced stockcars at the now demolished Birmingham International Raceway.. My daddy drag raced at the Lassiter Mountain Dragway. My brother also has experience racing just about anything with wheels, under a variety of conditions.

Though I don't really follow it, I do know a thing or two about racing.

After watching the only video currently available on the incident, I clearly see who is at fault.
The driver who, ignored safety precautions, climbed out of his car, and walked into race traffic.

Anger is a dangerous emotion and Kevin Ward Jr. apparently let his get the better of him. His attempt to "get back at" one of the other drivers, led him to ignore common sense and ultimately cost him his life.

I keep reading on social network that "Tony Stewart needs to be charged with murder" but ask yourself: Would this had been any less tragic had it involved another driver?

No. I think not.

Day Four

Well, since they are no longer black, I should count that as a good sign, huh?

He's A Little Bit Country....

My relationship with W reminds me a little of the Donny and Marie Show:

He's A Little Bit Country, and I'm A Little Bit Rock'n'Roll

I stumbled on this revelation several weeks ago when he made a song reference that I didn't get, which is pretty rare, because to me, everything is a song reference.

I'm one of those people who can come up with a song lyric for almost any word you throw at me. (Further evidence that I may be a undiagnosed Aspie) But I don't do "country."

I don't remember what  the song was, but he said, " You know, Blah Blah Blah Country Song by Blah Blah?"

Crickets.

"Is it a country song?" I finally asked, "Cause you know I don't 'do' country."
Though it didn't really help, he sang me a little bit.  Still nothing.
"Well," he said, "that'll change if you ever ride in the truck with me."

I was relieved to learn that he does enjoy the now-classic rock that we both grew up with, so we do have some common ground.

Having been in the band, I was exposed to music of all types. I'm not strictly Anti-Country, it's just not my first choice.  I tolerate it.

A recent FB post about how much I love Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst (seriously, the man makes my teeth sweat)  drew a "like" from W. That surprised me, because if anyone is the total polar opposite of Country, it's Fred Durst.

That being said, today's post comes to you in honor of one of his favorite country stars, the beautiful and talented Sara Evans.

"Perfect" ~ Sara Evans 2003
Restless - RCA Nashville

And one of my favorite songs, from the extremely handsome, teeth-sweat-inducing (despite being overly tatted, which really ain't my thing, but in HIS case, I will make an exception) Fred Durst

"Behind Blue Eyes" ~ Limp Bizkit 2003
Results May Vary - Flip/Interscope

Apparetly 2003 was  a really good year
